Impactly solves this by combining volunteer discovery, community sharing, points rewards, and real-time messaging into a single, cohesive mobile application. Grounded in research and tailored for Indian colleges, it makes taking action simple and rewarding.
02 / The Problem
Primary user surveys identified major disconnects between students wishing to participate in local causes and their ability to take action:
- Fragmented Channels: Volunteer events are announced haphazardly across various messaging chats, social media stories, and physical boards, making them easy to miss.
- Lack of Motivation: Volunteering can feel isolated. Without simple goal tracking, point rewards, or social progress loops, students lose interest quickly.
- Language Barriers: Platforms often lack local language options, making it hard for diverse student demographics to discover local events.
03 / The Solution
We designed a dedicated mobile-first platform featuring a centralized event finder, a social feed to post photo updates, point reward progression, direct messaging, and full bilingual support in English and Hindi.

The application coordinates actions on the phone, buffers tasks during processes, and synchronizes coordinates instantly with cloud storage.

07 / Key Challenges
Challenge 1: Zero-Lag Search & Offline Ready
Scanning dozens of volunteer events over poor cellular networks can cause screen loading delays.
Solution: We set up local file storage on the device to cache event lists. The app reads from this local cache first for instant searches (under 0.01 seconds) and updates lists in the background when signal is acquired.
Challenge 2: Instant Chat Synchronization
Direct messaging needs to update instantly on screen without constant refresh requests that drain battery.
Solution: Built the chat interface on top of a live cloud subscription that pushes message payloads directly to recipient clients in under 0.2 seconds, securing data access so users can only view their own conversations.
